what we believe

Statement of Faith

The Scriptures

We believe, the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.

God

We believe, there is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. He is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence and obedience. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being.

God the Father

We believe, God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purpose of His grace. He is all powerful, all loving and all wise. He is the Father in truth to all those who become his children through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in his attitude toward all men.
God the Son

We believe Christ is the eternal Son of God. In his incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the virgin, Mary. He perfectly revealed and did the will of God, took upon Himself the human nature and identified Himself completely with mankind, yet without sin. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in his death on the cross made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before his crucifixion. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, partaking of the nature of God and of man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and man’s only Savior. He is the only way, the only truth and the only life.

God the Holy Spirit

We believe, the Holy Spirit to be the Spirit of God. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ and indwells all believers. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He calls men to the Savior, and effects regeneration. He cultivates Christian character, comforts and produces the fruits of the Spirit in believers and bestows the spiritual gifts by which we serve God through his church. He seals believers unto the day of redemption. His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism and service.

Man

We believe, man was created by the special act of God, in His own image and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God and fell from his original innocence whereby all mankind are now sinners and under condemnation without defense or excuse.

Salvation

We believe salvation is possible only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It is free to all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, who by his own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. Through faith in him we receive forgiveness for all our sins and are born again by the working of the Holy Spirit. This new birth makes us a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord and a son of God. The believer is therefore eternally secure and cannot lose his salvation. As a recipient of God’s salvation, we are justified (declared righteous) and sanctified (set apart for His use) in his sight. His salvation provides a new body for all believers to be received at the resurrection of the just.

The Church

We believe, the New Testament Church, to be the body of Christ and to include all believers from all ages. We believe it is also a local body of believers associated by faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, committed to His teachings, exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by His Word. It is an autonomous body, operating through democratic processes under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It’s scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.

Baptism

We believe Christian baptism to be the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is one of the two ordinances of the church and an act of obedience symbolizing the believers’ identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection and should follow the salvation experience. It pictures the spiritual baptism, necessary for salvation, performed by the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, by identifying the believer with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. Water baptism is not necessary for salvation but is a privilege and an opportunity for the saved person to publicly identify himself with his Lord.

Communion

We believe Communion or observing the Lord’s Supper to be the second ordinance of the church. It is a voluntary act by which a believer partakes of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine (unfermented grape juice). By doing so, we remember his broken body and shed blood and show the Lords’ death till He comes again. It is not necessary for salvation but is a privilege and an opportunity for the saved person to honor his Lord until His return.
